I began dancing in the 7th grade...

Tom Nardi

I began dancing in the 7th grade, when a wonderful teacher, Ann Reeke, offered to teach us ballroom dance lessons during our lunch hour. I was the only guy in a group of eight girls. My mother played the piano, and I played the saxophone in high school, so I grew up around music. I love the 60's rock and roll tunes, and the music of the "Big Band" era. Glenn Miller and Frank Sinatra are two of my favorite artists.

I didn't take dancing seriously until I retired from JMU in 2003. I began taking ballroom dance lessons from Karen Thomas. My goal then, and now, is to be a good social dancer. During the past 12 years, I have had wonderful experiences as a dance host aboard cruises; traveling, seeing the world, and dancing under the stars.

Dancing has changed my life. Since retiring, it has given me a new outlet to develop my skills, a chance to travel the world, and a way to stay healthy and active. I have made many wonderful new friends. All my dance partners have been special to me, and have taught me that no matter what dance skills you have, dancing is all about having fun.
